Being Grateful

What are 5 everyday things that bring you happiness?

This is my first daily prompt, to be honest, I dismissed it at first. I do that alot… “That’s not for me, too mushy”. But, I’ve had a scroll through some other replies to this daily prompt and remembered that my oldest sister journals 3 things she is grateful for each night and swears by it. So, why not give it a try!

I am actually quite poorly today, since Thursday I’ve been fighting off some horrible virus… Leaving me a cold sweaty mess with a banging headache and an awful cough (I know what you’re thinking, but I’ve already tested). So it would be easy for me to wallow, but I will try to reframe my brain to find something positive that comes from it!

1. My Husband (corny I know…)

Four days is a long time for me to be essentially just in bed feeling sorry for myself, during that time he has become a house keeper, carer, emotional support teddy, personal chef and likely alot more that I haven’t even noticed. He always comes through when I need him, which I am forever grateful for.

2. My Job

I don’t work Fridays, so I have only had one day off work; but my boss not only sent me back to bed without hesitation, she also arranged cover for my meetings so I wouldn’t need to worry. She’s messaged me once a day, even over the weekend to check on me and make sure I am ok. Plus, a couple of my lovely colleagues noticed my absence and have messaged me to check in. I am really lucky to have such a lovely team!

3. The TV in my bedroom

Slightly less thought provoking… A while ago we decided to put a TV in the bedroom, hidden in the wardrobe to be opened up when we use it. These last 4 days it has had alot of use!

4. My boy (Bagheera)

In my last post, I jabbered on about all the animals that keep us company in this little house. Bagheera, the oldest cat, is (unofficially) my boy; he is low maintenance and self assured, doesn’t really need anything but comes to me every night when I get into bed for a belly cuddle. Well, people say cats know when you’re poorly, Bagheera has been at my side for four days straight.

5. My lifestyle in general

I was struggling to think of a 5th thing… I do feel like **** after all… But then it dawned on me. Getting to spend 4 days in bed is something to be grateful for, not everyone has that luxury. Whether it because they have kids to look after, a less flexible job, less support, or don’t even have a warm safe place to recover. So lastly, I am grateful for the position I find myself in, where I am able to take the time to recover without fear of repercussions.

Thanks fo reading 🤒 As always, your thoughts are welcome.
